Photo of the Month: Autumn's Embrace

As the Yellow Island Steward, Matt Axling typically works until the sun goes down —ending the day on the west spit watching the sunset, which has a full, expansive view of the western horizon.  It is here where Matt took this autumn photo.

“It is so fun to watch the sun migrate south this time of year.”, says Matt.  “Everything on the island feels different… the shadows land in different places, the sun is lower in the sky, which brings welcome warmth through the cabin windows. Winter birds show up on the west spit rocks replacing those that have gone south. On sunny days, when the cold winds blow over the island from the north, the south side of the island has warm places to work.”
