Celebrate Earth Day on Yellow Island

  • Yellow Island San Juan Islands United States (map)

Join TNC Washington in celebrating Earth Day with a trip to Yellow Island Preserve, located in the San Juan Islands for a day of microplastics clean up and exploring the island.

Yellow Island is an 11-acre preserve and among the most colorful of the Nature Conservancyโ€™s preserves. The native grasslands on Yellow Island are unique and an absence of grazing has preserved the diversity of native plants. Spring is a great time to visit as the island has than 50 species of wildflowers, including broadleafed shooting star and hairy Indian paintbrush bloom on Yellow Island.

For this trip, volunteers will meet the group in Anacortes at 10:00am. From there, we'll take about a 45 minute boat ride to the preserve. Once on the island, volunteer will have the opportunity to learn more abou the preserve, help with microplastics clean up on the beaches, and explore around the island. We'll spend about three hours on the island before getting back on the boat and heading back to Anacortes where we'll arrive at around 3:00pm. Due to the location of the island, participants are not able to leave early.
