Smith Work Party

  • The Nature Conservancy in Washington 74 Wall Street Seattle, WA, 98121 United States (map)

Join us for a partner event with Skagit Land Trust as we remove an invasive species from a beautiful protected area at the confluence of the Sauk and Skagit Rivers. We've been doing a lot of work to control a large patch of Policeman's helmet on the property and could use some help with weeding remaining plants out of existing native vegetation. It's an easy, satisfying plant to pull out, and won't require digging or prying.

What to expect:

After arriving at the site, we will walk into the property. We will need to descend a short, steep hill, and may then walk up to a 1/2 mile through vegetation to reach the plant, depending on what our partners have accomplished before the workparty. We will spend our time looking for and pulling out these invasive plants from mixed native vegetation, bagging and removing flowers and piling most of the plants on site. All techniques and plant identification will be demonstrated at our site orientation and no prior experience is required.

Ages: All ages welcome! (minor releases of liability required if under 18)

The Trust will provide tools, extra gloves, snacks, and drinks.
