Live Video: Explore 'Old Growth' in this West Seattle Park

By Robin Stanton, media relations manager

Schmitz Preserve Park in West Seattle is an oasis of forest just off of busy Southwest Admiral Way.

It has towering cedars and Douglas firs, giant big-leaf maples and a carpet of ferns across the forest floor. Yet you can get there by bike, bus or car in under a half hour from downtown Seattle.

I recently explored the park with David B. Williams, local natural-history writer and author of "Seattle Walks."
