We're here for a Resilient Future

As members of the Washington Climate Alliance - a broad coalition of not just environmental organizations, but health professionals, faith groups, labor unions, social justice organizations, businesses and more - we’re proud to support the Resilient Future platform.

As our devastating wildfires and smoke have shown again this month, the causes of the climate crisis are deeply intertwined with those of the other crises we are facing. And many of the solutions to our public health emergency, severe economic instability and generations of institutional and individual racism also help in the fight against climate change. There’s never been a better time to re-imagine a brighter, healthier, more peaceful and equitable future.

Drawing from the expertise and experience of a broad and deep diversity of partners from across the state, the Climate Alliance’s Resilient Future platform will set forth priorities to help Washington lawmakers create a more just and sustainable future for generations to come. The Climate Alliance will announce specific policy priorities in November, in preparation for the 2021 legislative session, and will call upon on state leaders to act guided by five key principles for a resilient future.

All 5 RF principles - FB.jpg
  • People-Focused Solutions: Support communities hit hardest by the health, environmental and economic crises with direct investments.

  • Equitable, Participatory Decision-Making Process: Engage frontline workers, communities of color, tribal nations and others most impacted by the health and economic crises in all decision-making processes.

  • Progressive Revenue Sources that drive down pollution: Ensure that individuals and corporations all pay a fair share toward creating a better Washington for all.

  • Climate-Resilient Investments: Prioritize long-term investments to build a clean and resilient economy and support healthy and prosperous communities.

  • Clean & Just Approaches: Integrate strategies to reduce pollution, increase climate protection, strengthen the power and voices of workers, address structural inequalities, protect collective bargaining rights and create good jobs.

There’s a lot of work to do to rebuild toward a society that works for nature and all people - not just a privileged few. We can’t do it without bold public policy that both makes a statement about the future we want and is effective at moving us toward that future together.
