Birds of May: Yellow Island

What: Our Yellow Island Preserve is a rich example of the bird diversity of life present in the San Juan Islands. The prairie savannahs, Yellow Island’s major terrestrial ecosystem, attracts a wonderful array of birds. Bald eagles fly majestically above the island’s trees, Harlequin ducks and the black oystercatcher can be seen in the intertidal zone, and songbirds make their calls as they fly from bush to bush.

We will be joined by Phil Green, who worked and lived on Yellow Island for 20 years. Phil brings an extensive and intimate knowledge of Yellow Island birds,  having submitted over 4,000 bird checklists to eBird and over 400 audio recordings to the Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds.
