Watch This: Water Flows into Estuary for First Time in 100 Years

Our friends at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife created this stunning timelapse video showing the effects of the Fir Island estuary restoration project, which we supported with technical advice and funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Check it out:

For chinook salmon, a threatened species protected under the Endangered Species Act, this is a big deal. Tidal marsh habitat here is a quarter of what it was historically. The Fir Island Farm restoration of 131 acres alone is projected to increase juvenile salmon production by at least 65,000 every year.
